The wash basin for use by physically handicapped, and particularly suited for use from a wheelchair, is very flat, reduces in width towards the front and has concave sides. Shock absorbing pads (15) are fitted to the front and sides of the basin for protection against contact by a wheelchair. The raised sides (11) and deflectors (12) prevent splashing. The water outlet (26) and a ring (24) for control of the water supply are mounted above the centre of the basin on a tall column (21). The basin has a hand spray mounting (22) and an overflow (14).
