<p>An evacuation restraint of the type which is in use disposed under a mattress (M) of a bed and being operable in use to deform the mattress (M) about a patient (P) to protect the patient during evacuation by means of said restraint, said restraint comprising a generally rectangular base sheet (1), handling loops (3, 4) of webbing secured by stitching to said loose sheet (1), and a single length of webbing (2) secured to said base sheet (1) to define two spaced pairs of opposed loops (7, 8;9, 10) extending from the sides of the base sheet (1). Connecting straps (11, 12) are attached to the loop s (7, 9) and adjustably support hooked connectors (13). The connectors (13) are adapted to engage covered portions (16) of the opposite loops (8, 10) over a mattress (M) and patient (P) and on adjustment of the length of each strap (11, 12), the mattress (M) is deformed about the patient (P) with the loops (7, 8; 9, 10) providing diagonally extending support for the patient (P) within the mattress (M). The patient (P) protectively enclosed within the mattress (M) may then be transported by means of the handling loops (3, 4) for safe evacuation in the event of an emergency. </p> |
