The invention relates to an annular core having a non-linear behaviour of the characteristic with a variable magnetic load. This is achieved in a simple manner by means of two annular-core halves, one of which consists of metal powder and the other of ferrite, the separating plane between these annular-core halves deviating a selectably oblique manner from the centre verticals. In consequence, the curve gradient of the non-linearity can be varied within certain limits.
