The heads of glass ampoules are severed by scratching the ampoule neck, whereupon the ampoule head is removed by breaking it off. The device for the automatic execution of these measures comprises an ampoule rest (12) displaceable on a housing (2), a guide (4) for the ampoule neck, a scratching device (5) in the form of a peripheral grinding or cutting disc (22) in the plane of the ampoule guide (4) and a striking device (6) for knocking off the ampoule head.
