The device enables the horizontal conveying of elongated work-pieces and in a direction transverse with respect to the longitudinal dimension of the work-pieces. The device comprises a support frame with horizontal guiding beams, a carrier carriage (5) of which the wheels (6a, 6b) are in mesh with lateral channels of the beams, without any possibility of vertical displacement, and it also comprises a device (8) for lifting and lowering the carriage (5) under or above the guiding beams (4). The device for lifting (8) the carriage comprises a crank mechanism (17) comprised of a lifting plate (26), angle levers (18, 19) and a bar (31). The axes of each wheel (32) forms the pivoting axes of the angle levers (18, 19), of which one arm is hinged to the lifting plate (26) by means of lifting shafts (42, 43) and of which the other arm (18, 19) is connected by means of the bar (31) to one end of a traction member (9). The traction member (9) is conducted in the support frame about a guiding wheel and a driving wheel and it is connected at its other end to a sleeve (37) which is vertically movable along lateral plates (40) of the lifting plate (26). If the guiding wheel is motionless, the traction member (9) retains the sleeve and thereby the lifting plate (26) motionless in the moving direction of the lifting device (8). By moving the guiding wheel, the lifting plate (26) may be lifted by the traction member (9) at the same time that the angle levers (18, 19) are lifted vertically, since the stroke of the axes of the angle levers and of the wheels (32) is compensated by the moving arrangement of the wheels (6a, 6b) in the guiding beams (4). |
