A novel fluorine-substituted ganglioside GM3 derivative represented by the formula (I): <CHEM> wherein R is an aliphatic acyl group, R<1> is a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group, R<2>, R<3>, R<4> and R<6> represent independently of one another a hydrogen atom, an aliphatic lower acyl group or an aromatic acyl group, R<5> is an straight or branched, saturated or unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbon group having 1 to 30 carbon atoms, and n is an integer of 0 to 20, provided that when R<1> is a hydrogen atom, R<2>, R<3>, R<4> and R<6> are hydrogen atoms, or when R<1> is a lower alkyl group, R<2>, R<3>, R<4> and R<6> are each an aliphatic lower acyl group or an aromatic acyl group. |
