PURPOSE:To make it possible to obtain a white semiconductor safely usable for living goods, etc., by supporting a silica based film on the surface of a titanium oxide substrate. CONSTITUTION:The surface of titanium oxide is coated with a silicon compound and fired to form a silica based film thereon and give the aimed optical semiconductor without problems in safety for the skin. Since the color of the semiconductor is white, a large amount thereof can be blended in face powder and the activity is hardly deteriorated with time. The above-mentioned optical semiconductor is produced by putting, e.g. given amounts of fine titanium oxide particles and tetrahydrotetramethylcyclotetrasiloxane into separate small containers and allowing the small containers to stand in a hermetically sealed container at room temperature. The resultant fine titanium oxide particles treated with the silicone are then fired in an electric furnace in the absence of air under given condition. |
