The engine includes an air blower upstream of the compressor stage, with a casing directing a flow of cold intake air and supported by radial arms (12) attached to the engine core. At least one (12A) of the radial arms forms a pre-cooling heat exchanger (18) to transfer heat to the cold intake air from a heated airflow exiting from the low- and/or high-pressure compression stages of the engine. The arms defining the heat exchanger are of aerofoil-shaped cross-section and are hollow in structure, forming a conduit through which the heated air from the compression stage (3) passes. The heat exchanger arms are spaced at regular radial intervals around the circumference of the engine, e.g. at intervals of 90 deg. |
