The support plate (10) for the fitting has a casing of the mechanism attached behind it. The support plate has a central rectangular aperture giving access to the mechanism (12) behind. The casing of the mechanism may be made of synthetic material, with projecting pads (14) engaging holes in the support plate. One or more further holes are formed in the support plate, with screws (23) passing through the holes to engage projecting claws (24) at the rear of the mechanism (12). Further curved slots (25) are provided in the support plate for additional screws (26). The slots have a keyhole configuration, so that at their ends (41) they are sufficiently wide to allow the passage of the head of the screw.
