The rear engine motor vehicle has an air inlet opening (19) which is covered by a flap (14) when the engine is not running. The flap is attached to the vehicle by a folding hinge (35), mounted in a recess (17) in the bodywork at the rear of the air inlet opening. When the engine is running, the flap is swung about the folding hinge support (5) so that it moves upwards and rearwards and uncovers the air inlet opening. In this open position, the parts (31, 32) of the folding hinge and the adjacent hinge attachment parts, are extended so that they lie approx. in a common plane.
