The motor vehicle alternator has the internal cooling fan attached to the end of the rotor, and has the blades formed near its periphery. The end of the rotor (20) is made with a concave profile, and there are studs (23) on the end face at regular angular intervals . The fan (10) is formed from sheet metal and is in the shape of an annular ring, with the blades (13) bent outward and equally spaced round the periphery. Holes are formed at equal angles in the inner region of the fan ring, positioned to fit over the studs on the end of the rotor. These fixings are positioned at a radius immediately inside the blades, minimising the unsupported distance to the blades.
