PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To arbitrarily and simply obtain the racemic compound or both enatiomers of the subject compound useful as a raw material for pharmaceutical and agricultural chemical, in high yield. SOLUTION: The objective compound of formula II is obtained by carrying out the deprotonation of a compound of formula I, trans-3-hydroxy-4- phenylthiotetrahydrofurane, reacting with an alkyllithium in the presence of hexamethylphosphoric triamide, via ring opening and removal of thiophenol. The compound of formula I is obtained by epoxidizing 2,5-dihydrofuran with a peroxide and reacting the epoxy compound with an alkali metal phenylthiolate. |
