PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the peeling of a graphite layer and improve the life performance of a battery by providing a battery having a negative electrode having graphite, a positive electrode and an organic electrolyte, and providing a specified means between layers of graphite. SOLUTION: This battery has a negative electrode having graphite, a positive electrode and an organic electrolyte, and an interlayer binding means for mutually binding graphite layers, preferably an organic compound, more preferably a decomposed product of ethylene carbonate, is provided between the graphite layers. Namely, when an organic electrolyte containing ethylene carbonate in the electrolyte is used, for example, a decomposed product of ethylene carbonate is electrochemically produce to suppress the peeling of the graphite layer. In order to enhance the low temperature characteristic of the battery,γ- butyrolactone and/or propylene carbonate are preferably contained in the organic electrolyte.
