The cutter has two cutting knives (30, 32). The second knife is pivoted about an axis parallel to the pivot axis of the first. It is pretensioned in a position at right angles to the plane of the material to be cut. The first knife has a guide stop (54), which during a pivot movement of the first knife towards the second knife, engages on a section on the second knife before the cutting blades of the knives engage. Due to this, the second knife is moved slightly out of its pretensioned position, and during the subsequent pivot movement of the first blade into end position, the second knife is positioned mainly parallel to the first one.
