PURPOSE:To obtain a simply handleable pretreating agent for exhaust gas effectively removing catalytic poison such as gaseous organometallic compds. and silicon compds., preventing a pressure drop and making a device compact by supporting activated manganese oxide on a carrier. CONSTITUTION:Activated manganese oxide is supported on a carrier, preferably activated alumina having a large surface area by about >=20g/l, preferably about 76-90g/l (expressed in terms of Mn) to obtain a pretreating agent for exhaust gas. The pref. shape of the carrier is a three-dimensional network structure or a honeycomb structure ensuring a small pressure drop and simple handling. The pretreating agent effectively removes catalytic poison in exhaust gas such as gaseous organometallic compds., silicon compds. and org. phosphorus compds. and has such durability that the effect is maintained over a considerably long period of time. Since the manganese oxide is supported on the carrier, a pressure drop is reduced, handling is simplified and a device can be made compact. |
