Auxiliary drive control method in automatic motor vehicle transmission

The auxiliary drive method involves the driver generating a signal corresponding to switching on the auxiliary drive. The signal is converted into a signal for opening an automated coupling (4) between a drive motor (2) and the transmission (6). After a minimum transmission input shaft (10) speed is reached, a changeover device (26) connects the auxiliary drive with a shaft (16) driven by it to close the changeover device. If prevention of engagement is detected the changeover device is opened and the coupling is closed to raise the input shaft speed to clear the problem.
