The fixing device fixes an unfixed toner image (5) which is provided on a recording paper with a first and a second side. The device has two opposing heating and press rollers which define between them a press section. This holds the paper (3) such that the image on the paper (3) is heated and pressed to fix the image (5). The heating and press rollers are pressed towards each other over the press section. The device also has a paper advancing path with an entry side and an exit side relative to the press section. The paper (3) is conveyed through this path such that it is partially wound about the opposing rollers. The first side of the paper (3) is in contact with one of the rollers on the entry side of the advancing path. The second side of the paper (3) is in contact with the other roller on the exit side of the path.
