A precision boring bit has a support shank with a removable cutting edge (3) at the tip. One or more support strips (5,6,7) are set in axial grooves up the shank and at least one strip is fitted with pairs of jets (8) through which coolant/lubricant is applied to the bore. The gas or liquid coolant removes any swarf and prevents damage to the bore.
