摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate the simplification and size reduction of a pickup by a method wherein a recording layer on which a laser beam is focused through an object lens is provided and a light transmitting layer having a specific thickness is provided on the recording layer. SOLUTION: A magneto-optical disk system has an object lens whose numerical aperture is 0.55-0.70 and a magnetic field generator 9 in which a coil pattern 7 is formed and which consists of a light transmitting optical glass plate 8. A disc-type single-sided magneto-optical recording medium 40 is composed of a thin light transmitting substrate 41 whose thickness t2 is 0.1-0.6mm and a dielectric layer 42, a recording magnetic layer 43, a dielectric layer 44, a reflective layer 45 and a protective cover 46 which are successively built up on the light transmitting substrate 41. Recording and reproduction can be performed by applying a laser beam to the medium 40. As the thickness t2 of the substrate 41 is very small and the position of the coil pattern 7 is close to the substrate 41, the distance between the coil pattern 7 and the recording magnetic layer 43 is small, which is preferable.
