PURPOSE: A speed controlling device of an elevator is provided to suppress mechanical vibration during maintaining speed following performance of an elevator and to detect speed of elevator cage with installing a rotary encoder and to compensate for vibration generated in the cage to eliminate vibrant component during travel. CONSTITUTION: An elevator speed controller comprises; a cage(514) travelling upward and downward along a rail(516) inside a hoistway with a sheave and a balance weight connected and a guide roller butted with the rail; a rotary encoder detecting speed of cage; a vibration compensating device calculating and outputting voltage order value applying current to an electromotor for accelerating and decelerating cage, detecting vibration component from cage speed and offsetting the component; a proportional integral controller(505); an inverter unit(508) controlling speed of cage by supplying voltage of voltage order value to an electromotor(510a). Only the vibration components are extracted and compensated so speed control performance does not decrease and riding comfort increases while inhibiting mechanical vibration.
