PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable the operation of an up head by mounting it to face downward similar to the manner of a down head. SOLUTION: The mounting of a magnetic head is expressed as h1, h2, and the angleθ0= arctan(Hx, Hy) between a straight line connecting a center HC (Hx, Hy) of a head driving part with a center DC (Dx, Dy) of a magnetic disk 10 and an x-axis is obtained and compared with the mounting angleθto the x-axis of the magnetic head, which is a set value preliminarily written into a file. The case ofθ0>θshows that the mounting of the magnetic head is h1, and the rotating direction of a spindle motor 9 is decided to r1, and the case ofθ0<θshows that the mounting of the magnetic head is h2, and the rotating direction of the spindle motor is decided to r2. Thus, the rotating direction of the spindle motor is automatically set in that the magnetic head is arranged on which side of the center DC of the magnetic disk 10.
