PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for preventing liquid refrigerant from being accumulated in multiple air conditioner are provided to obviate occurrence of a refrigerant lacking phenomenon by preventing the refrigerant from being accumulated in an evaporator not being operated and a connection line. CONSTITUTION: In an apparatus and method for preventing liquid refrigerant from being accumulated in multiple air conditioner, valves(21) for cutting off the inflow of refrigerant are respectively mounted on connection lines(14) connecting between evaporators(16) and a refrigerant recovery line(17) in a multiple air conditioner having a plurality of evaporators(16) so as to prevent the refrigerant from being introduced into and accumulated in an evaporator(16) not being operated and the connection line(14), so that occurrence of the refrigerant lacking phenomenon in the overall equipment is prevented. When the multiple air conditioner having the plurality of evaporators(16) is operated, an expansion valve(13) and the valves(21) for cutting off the inflow of refrigerant, which are connected to the evaporators(16) not being operated, are opened while the evaporator(16) not being operated is operated for a predetermined time period so as to carry out a refrigerant recovery operation by which liquid refrigerant accumulated in the evaporator(16) and the connection line(14) is recovered, so that any loss in a compressor caused by reduction of the refrigerant is prevented.
