PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid level detector constituted so that a rare earth magnet or a soft magnetic material can be used in water or an aqueous solution. SOLUTION: The liquid level detector 1 is equipped with a float 5 moved accompanied by the fluctuations of a liquid level, a magnetic body 9 of the rare earth magnet or the soft magnetic material fluctuating accompanied by the movement of the float 5, and a detection element 10 detecting a change in magnetic force accompanied by the fluctuations of the magnetic body 9. The surface of the magnetic body 9 is coated with a protective layer consisting of nickel 24 and a fluoroplastic resin 25.
