PURPOSE:To prevent destruction of the information recorded on an optical recording medium even when an optical output control circuit becomes defective by stopping the light emission of an optical output means when the presence of an electric signal is detected by means of a detecting means while the light emission of the optical output means is stopped. CONSTITUTION:A semiconductor laser oscillator (optical outputting means) 6 produces divergent laser light in accordance with a drive signal S2 from an optical output control circuit 15. A fault detection circuit 16 detects various troubles of the circuit 15 and, upon detecting abnormality, disconnects the power supply to the laser 6, a photodiode 12, and the circuit 15 so as to surely stop the emission from the laser. Therefore, destruction of the information recorded on an optical disk 1 can be prevented surely. |
