It is intended to provide a bioartificial renal tubule which is suitable for continuous blood filtration and constitutes an artificial kidney together with a bioartificial glomerulus. A bioartificial renal tubule comprising an artificial membrane which is inside coated with renal tubular epithelial cells and a container for packing the same, wherein the cells do not overlap together but constitute a confluent single molecular layer on the artificial membrane as described above due to the use of an MEK inhibitor. The renal tubular epithelial cells as described above are characterized by sustaining the ability to inhibit contact because due to the use of the MEK inhibitor. As the MEK inhibitor, U0126 is preferred. By attaching the cells that enable the recurrence of the renal function, dialysis can be efficiently conducted continuously over 24 hours. Moreover, an ability to reabsorb a useful substance can be imparted to the renal tubule thereby. |
