The object is to modulate the cell wall lysis acticity of a lytic enzyme and inhibit the lysis of a microbial cell. Disclosed is a lytic enzyme inhibitor or a lysis inhibitor comprising a YoeB protein encoded by a YoeB gene derived from Bacillus subtilis or a homologous gene corresponding to the YoeB gene as the main ingredient. An example of the YoeB protein is a protein comprising an amino acid sequence depicted in SEQ ID NO:2.
