An image forming apparatus providing port information about a multiport, a host and a method thereof are provided to increase the efficiency of transport network and increase the convenience of a user by providing an optimum connection communication port by using multiport information. A message processor(111) generates a request message requesting the port information about the transfer port equipped in the image forming apparatus(200). The message processor transmits the generated request message to the communications port. A storage(112) receives and stores a response message about the request message. A controller(120) stores IP address about the communication port included in the image forming apparatus.
