PURPOSE:To decrease the attachability and floating height of a magnetic recording disk by providing an area which forms a deep texture groove in an annular area neighboring to the inner edge part of the disk and with low inside compressibility, and an area which forms a shallow texture groove extending over the entire outer side annular part of a substrate surface and with high outside compressibility. CONSTITUTION:An inner side circular area 42 centering the rotary shaft 24 of a texturing pad 40 and an annular outer side area 44 occupying the remaining part of the surface of the pad are provided at the texture pad 40. The inner side area of the pad is formed with a raw material with comparatively low compressibility, and comparatively deep texture can be formed in the area coming in contact with a substrate 14 under the existence of particle slurry 36. Also, the outer side area of the pad is formed with the raw material with comparatively high compressibility, and an extremely shallow groove is formed in the area coming in contact with the substrate 14 under the existence of the particle slurry 36, which enables almost smooth texturing to be performed. In such a way, it is possible to reduce the wear and drag of both the disk and a head, and to decrease the floating height.
