The method comprises carrying out an estimation, using an algorithm executed in a processor, of a value of insulin on board, or IOB, indicative of a residual level of insulin that is still active in the body of a user after being introduced into said user, and comprises carrying out a calculation, using the algorithm executed in a processor, of a dose of insulin to be supplied in successive pumping instants of an infusion pump, over a determined period of time, in such a way that the estimated IOB value follows at least one pre-established IOB profile, independently of boluses or correction boluses previously supplied to the user.
