1,124,199. Pipe couplings. MANCARTRUST. 17 March, 1967 [24 March, 1966], No. 12596/67. Heading F2G. Glass fibre-reinforced synthetic plastics pipes are formed with sockets 3, 4 which are provided with screw-threads 8, 9 and coned surfaces 5, 6, and a core 2 has, on either side of a central collar 7, screwed portions of opposite hand which engage in the sockets and coned ends 10, 11 which together with the surfaces 5, 6 define cavities 12, 13, the sections of the core adjacent the cavities being such that when the pipes expand in service the coned surfaces 5, 6 and ends 10, 11 are urged toward each other into sealing contact. Sealing rings 16, 17 are arranged between the collar and sockets, the cavities contain sealing rings 14, 15. Half shells 18 are secured to the pipes' ends by screws 19 and an adhesive. The pipes may have an internal preformed liner of asbestos cement or synthetic plastics and the wound glass fibre rovings within the sockets are continued for one or two layers beyond the ends of the threads after which the winding-on angle of the rovings continuously varies until the outer layers of rovings run nearly parallel to the pipe axes. |
