1,190,881. Bottle caps &c. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. 24 Dec., 1968 [26 Feb., 1968], No. 9162/68. Heading B8T. [Also in Division B5] A thermoplastic polymer closure 7 a is provided around the open end of an upstanding portion of a container 8, e.g. a beer bottle, a glass jar, or a metal can, by locating the thermoplastic as a solid mass, e.g. a stamped blank, on or above the aperture and effecting relative movement between the container 8 and a confined body of resilient deformable material 4, e.g. rubber having a plane or concave surface. The resiliently deformable material 4 may comprise a unitary mass or a plurality of layers of rubber. The solid mass of thermoplastic polymer may be heated, and may comprise polypropylene, high and low density polyethylene, ethylene/propylene copolymers, blends of polyolefins, polystyrenes including high impact polystyrenes and acrylonitrile/butadiene/styrene copolymer, and other polymers as described in Specification 1,175,915. The polymers may include colourants, stabilizers, antioxidants, antistatic additives, or fibres, and may be cellular. The neck of the container may be threaded. Examples are given using preheated discs of polypropylene and polystyrene. The closures may be of the single application, or resealable types. |
