摘要 1,082,401. Spinning yarns; traversing filaments. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. June 8, 1965 [June 10, 1964], No. 24087/64. Headings D1D, D1F, D1J and DIW. In the production of a looped, bulky yarn, 1-50 filaments 20 of a polymeric material e.g. polyamides, polyesters, cellulose derivatives, polyacrylics, vinyl and vinylidene polymers, polyurethane, polyhydrocarbons, extruded from a spinneret 21 into room temperature air, pass through a traversing guide 25 to a rotating body 23 around which the filaments are wound (or wrapped) to form a tapered, tubular sleeve 26. The body 23 has a peripheral speed of at least 7000 feet per minute and sufficient to tension, alternate and molecularly orient the filaments. The sleeve is continuously withdrawn from the body in the direction of its axis of rotation (and at a speed less than said peripheral speed) by means of a wind-up mechanism 31; the collapsed sleeve, passing through a ceramic guide ring 28, is extended and twisted thereby (with twist factor of 0.75-10) to form the bulky yarn 29 which is wound into a tapered-end package 32. The form of the yarn may be varied according to the chosen shape and dimensions of the body 23, Figs. 2-4 (not shown). The final yarn, Figs. 11-18 (not shown) comprises a multiplicity of interconnected looped segments extending in a generally axial direction with a progressive advancement of segments along the axis and with a majority of the segments contained for at least part of their length within another segment, the yarn being consolidated by the twist. "Pedicted" loops or bights, emerging from the segments and extending outwardly therefrom, may occur infrequently and wrap loosely around the segments to form a discontinuous binding of helically twisted loops therealong or the bights may be numerous and extend in random array so that the yarn exhibits a distinct compact core and a loose peripheral region. Unwanted bights may be removed by cutting or singeing with a red-hot wire. The filaments are of circular or multilobal crosssection. Traverse mechanism 25, operating at an effective rate of at least 600 cycles per minute, comprises a tuned, electromagnetically operated, guide-carrying bar, Fig. 5 (not shown) or a pivoted guide-carrying bar which is oscillated by a crank-driven connecting rod joined to the bar by a pin engaging an elongated slot-therein, Fig. 6 (not shown). Alternatively, the mechanism is hydraulically operated or the filaments are reciprocated by air jets directed alternately from opposite sides thereof.
