[Also in Divisions C2, C3 and C5] Compositions effective against bacteria and fungi comprise tetrahydro-1, 3, 5-thiadiazine-2- thiones of the general formula: where Ar is an unsubstituted or substituted aromatic radical, B is a saturated hydrocarbon linking group having 2 or 3 carbon atoms in the chain, R is an aliphatic hydrocarbon radical optionally substituted by OH or COOH, and X is oxygen, sulphur, sulphinyl or sulphonyl in combination with petroleum fractions, alcohols, ethers such as ethylene glycol alkyl ether and surface active substances such as emulsifying agents and other distributing agents and may be applied to skins, leather, wool, wood, cellulose, paper, cotton, glues, printing thickeners made from starch and cellulose derivatives, oils of all types, treatment liquors for paper and textiles, plastics and synthetic materials of all types, in the form of solutions or dispersions in which the active agent is concentrations of at least 0.1 g/litre. Cosmetic and topical compositions effective against bacteria and fungi comprise an ointment, cream or deodorant base together with the above tetrahydro-1, 3, 5-thiadiazine-2-thiones as the active ingredient and may also contain the following known bactericides and fungicides, halogenated salicylic acid alkylamides and anilides, halogenated diphenyl ureas, halogenated benzoxazoles or benzoxazolones, polychlorohydroxydiphenyl methanes, halogendihydroxy diphenyl sulphides, halogenated hydroxydiphenyl ethers, 2-iminoimidazolidines or 2-iminotetrahydropyrimidines, quaternary compounds or dithiocarbamic acid derivatives such as tetramethyl thiuram disulphide. Carriers such as sulphur or zinc stearate can be used as a foundation for powders or as a component of ointment foundations respectively. |
