1,159,816. Shaped bodies containing zeolite A. W. R. GRACE & CO. 11 Oct., 1966 [22 Oct., 1965], No. 45461/66. Heading C1A. A process for preparing shaped bodies containing zeolite A comprises the steps of (a) forming bodies, having the molar composition Na 2. O/Al 2 O 3 = 0À20-0À35, SiO 2 /Al 2 O 3 = 1À8- 2.2, and H 2 O/Al 2 O 3 = 4-8 from sodium hydroxide, water and kaolin-type clay which has been calcined at 550-850‹ C., and hardening these preformed bodies, e.g. at 25‹ C. for 24 hours; (b) forming a reaction mixture, having the overall molar composition Na 2 O/Al 2 O 3 = 1À0-1À6, SiO 2 /Al 2 O 3 = 1À8-2À2, H 2 O/Na 2 O = 12-18, from the hardened bodies, together with additional sodium hydroxide and water; (c) ageing the reaction mixture at 20-55‹ C. for 6 to 80 hours; and (d) heating the reaction mixture at 80-110‹ C., e.g. for 3-12 hours, until zeolite A is formed in the preformed bodies. The bodies are washed to remove all free sodium hydroxide, dried and heated at 400-550‹ C. The bodies may be base exchanged with potassium or calcium. |
