Gear teeth are formed by one circular tool with teeth machined at its periphery conforming to the desired finished shape of the gear blank. The tool may both rotate and be moved in an axial direction, and also takes up a definate relationship with the gear blank, which itself is supported on a piston which may both revolve and move axially to the rotation. The teeth are formed by the tool making a lateral, axial or radial displacement across the face of the blank, which movement is synchronised to that of the blank by means of an operator console and electronic switching system.
|
