In a LeclanchÚ type dry cell the electrolyte comprises an aqueous solution of ZnCl 2 , and NH 4 Cl, the concentration of ZnCl 2 being not less than 17% by weight and that of NH 4 Cl being not more than 10% by weight. In the examples a depolarizer mix of MnO 2 acetylene black, and part of the electrolyte is shaped to a cylindrical form and inserted in a zinc can which acts as anode. The rest of the electrolyte is formed into a paste with wheat starch and fills the space between the mix and the zinc can. The zinc can may be coated with a mixture of wheat starch and polyvinyl acetate and then lined with kraft paper. |
