A seal 26 for the shaft of a shock absorber is provided with a gritexcluding lip or rib 34 having a radiused shaftengaging portion. The radius is such (e.g. 0À005-0À020 inch) as to exclude grit while allowing any fluid film on the shaft to pass through the seal during the return movement of the shaft. The main sealing portion of the seal 26 may consist of a spring - pressed lip 36 or a series of sawtooth-shaped ribs. |
