An apparatus for developing a relatively moving surface bearing a latent electrostatic image wherein the apparatus includes a housing supporting developer material in contact with the surface. The motion of the image-bearing surface with respect to the development housing effects a frictional coupling of the development material therein to cause a circulation of developer for development of the latent image. The development apparatus further utilizes a moveable magnetic field producing means mounted exteriorly of the housing to increase the circulation of developer to produce enhanced development results over extended periods of use.
