<p>The fibres of 10 - 1 mu are obtd. from untreated or comminuted material, e.g. in powder form. The particles are coated by vapour deposition before being heated to their softening point and formed into longitudinally oriented fibres by hammering, drawing, rolling or extrusion. Pref. the coated material is compacted into the shape of a block and sintered before being formed into fibres. The coating is of material of m.pt. above the softening pt. of the fibre material. The core is e.g. Ti and the coating SiO2.</p> |
