The object wave stored in the hologram has intensity maxima. The hologram is scanned and a pulse is furnished for each of the intensity maxima. This creates a spatial distribution of pulses. The spatial integral of this pulse distribution is carried out. The resulting signal, which represents the phase distribution of the object wave stored in the hologram, is recorded on a suitable recording medium.
