The optical fibre consists of a glass fibre (1) with a silicon rubber layer (2) whose outer surface is powdered. When the glass fibre body approaches the sheath (3), the silicon rubber layer is deformed mechanically over a fairly long distance. The influence on the glass fibre is therefore disposed and the damping characteristic varies less sharply. The glass fibre can have a diameter of e.g. 125 mum, the powdered silicon rubber layer a diameter of e.g. 400 mum, and the loose sleeve of e.g. polyterephthalate an inside diameter of e.g. 1.25 mum and an outside diameter of 1.75 mm.
