The check valve for telescopic shock absorbers for motor vehicles has a closure member being a disc (9) spring-urged against a seat member (1). This has two concentric annular seats (10, 11) with an annular expansion chamber (21) between them. When the disc is raised from the seat member by upstream pressure, the fluid passes through the gap between the disc and the first seat, the expansion chamber and then through the corresponding gap at the second seat into the low pressure zone. The arrangement suppresses noise.
