Upholstered backrest is supported on an upper crossbeam of the frame whose rear side extends up to the upper edge of the backrest cushion. An upholstered seat cushion engages beneath the backrest cushion with its rear end supported on guide rails connected to longitudinal beams. a support rod whose upper ends slidingly adjoins a slide plate at the back of the frame is attached to a rear crossbeam of the seat cushion frame and when the seat cushion is pushed in beneath the backrest its upper end extends up to near the upper crossbeam. The backrest frame is swivel mounted and supported by a beam in the middle of the support rod when the seat cushion can be moved to and fro beneath the backrest so that the depth of the seat is altered although the reclining position of the backrest need not be.
