<p>An arrangement for equalizing the pressure acting on shaft-sealing parts (11), (12) arranged between interior spaces 6, 10 and at the other end of space 10 of an apparatus comprises a protective sleeve 20a, 21a communicating with the exterior of the apparatus and containing a fluid-tight variable- volume body 20b, 21b which communicates by means of a pressure medium with the interior spaces 6, 10. The exterior pressure thus acts on both sides of the shaft-sealing parts, thus reducing damage and wear on these parts, for instance in the case of a water-immersed pump. A mechanical indicator may be provided extending from the variable volume bodies for giving a reduction of loss of pressurizing fluid therein or leakage of external fluid into chambers 6, 10.
