PURPOSE:To enable to recognize the position which has high resolution by removing DC component in combination with the outputs of sensors which detect the ruggedness of the magnetic teeth of a stator. CONSTITUTION:The photoreceptors 15a-15c of a movable element 2 respectively receive the lights emitted from light emitting elements 13a-13c reflected on the rugged surface of the magnetic tooth 3 of a stator 1. The output signals S1(X)- S3(X) of the photoreceptors 15a-15c are respectively leveled in the amplitude by amplifiers 22 and 24 to become signals Sa1(X)-Sa3(X). After the signals Sa1 (X)-Sa3(C) are added by an adder 26, they are applied to inverting amplifiers 27-29. Adders 30a-30c add the outputs of the amplifiers 27-29 and the signals Sa1(X)-Sa3(X) and output position signals P1-P3. In this manner, the position which has high resolution can be recognized thermally in high accuracy.
