PURPOSE:To print clear images free of voids and having sharp outlines, by coating the upper side of a base with a coating agent comprising an emulsion and a coloring agent as main constituents to provide a solid coated film. CONSTITUTION:A coating agent comprising an emulsion and a coloring agent as main constituents is applied to the upper side of the base to provide the solid coated film, thereby producing the thermal transfer recording medium. The emulsion may be an emulsion of a wax, a higher fatty acid, a higher fatty acid amide, a metallic soap of higher fatty acid, or the like. A heat-resistant protective layer may be formed on the base by using a higher fatty acid, a fluoro resin, a silicone resin or the like. A resin emulsion or a wax emulsion and the coloring agent are dispersed in water by a ball mill, an attritor or the like to prepare an ink. The ink coating agent is applied to the base by a conventional coating machine, followed by drying. When providing the protective layer on the other side of the base, the above-mentioned component is mixed and dispersed in a solvent, and the resultant material is applied to the base, followed by drying. |
