PURPOSE:To enable precision polishing without damaging a polished surface, even if a polishing agent of high Mohs' hardness is mixed, by mingling the binder of a polishing applied film with a copolymer made from vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate and having a hydroxyl group and a carboxyl group in each molecule. CONSTITUTION:A polishing applied film 2 is slid on the tape sliding surface of a magnetic head 3 to smoothly polish the tape sliding surface by a polishing agent of hard grains projecting from the surface of the applied film 2. The diameter of the grains of the polishing agent is adjusted depending on the purpose of use thereof. The polishing agent, a binder and additives including a lubricant and so forth are mingled together to make the polishing applied film 2. A copolymer made from vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate is mixed with polyester polyol or the like to make the binder. The copolymer has a hydroxyl group and a carboxyl group in each molecule. The hydroxyl group acts to uniformly disperse the polishing agent. The carboxyl group acts to heighten the adhesive power between the binder and the polishing agent. As a result, uniform polishing is enabled. The polishing agent of high Mohs' hardness can thus be used.
