The injection circuit (2) of the engine comprises a pump (3) for the injection of the fuel into the cylinders of the engine (1), the pump being connected to a fuel tank (4) by a fuel line (5), and a means (10) for adjusting engine load. During operation of the engine (1), quantities of additive determined according to engine (1) load are injected automatically into the fuel line (5) of the injection circuit (2). The invention may be used in particular for the introduction, into the fuel of the compression-ignition engine, of an additive which lowers the temperature of recombustion of soot in a particle filter arranged on the exhaust line of the motor vehicle propelled by the engine (1). <IMAGE>
