<p>PURPOSE:To enable copy or transmission without degrading picture quality even when a low-resolution mode is selected and to improve the quality of the longitudinal lines (lines in a sub scanning direction) or lateral lines (lines in a main scanning direction) of an original. CONSTITUTION:Even when the signals of data in the low-resolution mode are selected, a picture element value deciding circuit 114 and a binarizing part 103 prevent fine lines in original information from being missed by calculating the data of one picture element in the low-resolution mode from the data of plural picture elements read in a high-resolution mode. When the low-resolution mode is selected, fine lines in the main scanning or sub scanning direction are prevented from being missed by controlling 603 the rate of an edge emphasis amount in the main scanning and sub scanning direction corresponding to that mode.</p> |
