The chuck has angled guides (6) to take the chuck cheeks (8) which are moved between an inner support (4) and outer clamping grips. These are operated by a clamping sleeve (10) coupled to the chuck by a threaded mounting. An axial spring (38) is set between the chuck support and an outer clamping ring (16) which is moved axially to release the drill bits. The spring is tensioned between an upper thrust plate (20) and lower thrust ring (40).The upper thrust plate is coupled to the chuck support on a axial guide. It is similarly connected to the axial clamping ring. The axial coupling to the chuck mounting is via insert rods located in axial grooves in the mounting.
